Dear WNCC United Methodist Women,
United Methodist Women are going to Charlotte to stand in solidarity against HB2. There will be at least 40 ladies from the National Office and others. If you are able to stand for justice on Monday, January 30th at 12:00 noon, please meet us at Marshall Park, 300 South McDowell Street, Charlotte, NC. Click here to download flyer with additional information..
If you are not able to be in attendance, contact your Senator or Representative and/or contact Senate President Pro Temp Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore. Details for contact are at the bottom of the attached flyer.
Additional details about HB2 are listed below. It is more than the bathroom….for me. The minimum wage and the equal employment opportunity violations are crucial …..for me. North Carolina’s House Bill 2 was dubbed “the bathroom law” by those focusing on its requirement that persons use public bathrooms based on their biological sex rather than gender identity. The law also:
- Prohibits local government from setting minimum wage levels, working conditions or benefits that require more than what is mandated by the state.
- Prohibits local governments from setting hiring, wage or benefit standards for its private contractors.
- Reduces the statute of limitations on legal redress of certain equal employment opportunity violations.
- Allows discrimination based on sexual orientation in employment and public accommodations.
Do what you can. It will make a difference!
Blessings,
Tonya Lanier
UMW Conference President
