United Methodist Women members and friends,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are living in incredible times…aren’t we? It is a time that we all need to join in prayer, and in caring for each other. It is also a time for us to do our part to help people be safe, and join in efforts to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19 in our communities.

This afternoon, Bishop Paul Leeland issued a statement that included: (You can read the full statement from Bishop Leeland here.)

Bishop Hope Morgan Ward of the North Carolina Conference and I agree that it is important to suspend public worship for the next two weeks, beginning today. Please use your discretion regarding smaller gatherings like small groups, Bible studies, etc. These precautions are not only important for your own safety but for the health and welfare of the entire community. While we are in unfamiliar territory, health care professionals advise that this is necessary for slowing the rate of infection.

In an effort to exercise an abundance of caution, and do no harm to any of our members, our United Methodist Women district teams have made decisions to cancel or postpone events that had been scheduled for the near future. Hopefully, many of the events can be rescheduled for future dates. For some events scheduled for late April and early May, decisions have not yet been made, so stay tuned for news as we continue to monitor ongoing developments.
